【Community Engagement】Community Project Successfully Launched: Aiming to Bring Positive Changes to Everyday Life

The launch ceremony for the paint application community project was successfully held in Sham Shui Po, Hong Kong.
This project is part of the “Cool Down for a Better Summer (蔭涼益夏)” campaign, co-organized by Sanskrit, i2Cool Limited, and the Shero Initiative. Its goal is to enhance the comfort of public communities living in high-temperature environments through the application of innovative electricity-free cooling paint, known as iPaint. This patented product, originated from the research team led by Prof. Edwin Tso in SEE, has been commercialized via the startup i2Cool Limited. With strong support from the University Grants Committee (UGC), the Research Grants Council (RGC), the Innovation and Technology Fund (ITF) under the Innovation, Technology and Industry Bureau (ITIB), HK Tech 300, Hong Kong Science and Technology Park (HKSTP), InvestHK, and Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), this technology has been successfully launched and implemented in more than 20 countries/regions in the global market such as Hong Kong, mainland China, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.

學研1+計劃」資助 促進⾼質量科研成果產業化

Prof. Edwin Tso and his team that composed of other 3 members from the industry won the Grand Prize under the Innovation Category (Sub-category – All Member Group) at the HKIE Grand Award 2024.
The award-winning project is titled “iPaint AI and Related Best Practices”. The project is the electricity-free cooling technology “iPaint” that applied in conjunction with AI technology, along with other related best practices (i.e. GIS, IoT and BMS). This innovative technology enhances the operation of cooling tower and effectively leads to significant energy savings.

Prof. Edwin TSO has been granted funds from the HKSAR Government’s Research, Academic, and Industry Sectors One-plus Scheme (RAISe+ Scheme) for a pioneering projects led by him, titled "Revolutionizing Climate Resistance: A Universal Solution via Next-Generation Radiative Cooling Technologies for a Greener Community”.

The distinguished lecture "Mathematical Modelling in Materials Science : From Theory Practice to Business Start-up" was successfully held on 01 March 2024.
Kicked off with the opening remarks by Ms. Teresa Chan Mo Ngan, the Deputy Secretary for Education; Prof. Michael Yang Mengsu, the Senior Vice President (Innovation and Enterprise) and Prof. Guohua Chen, the Dean of the School of Energy and Environment (SEE) of CityU, Prof. Edwin Tso and Dr. Martin Zhu delivered talks that inspired more than 200 Secondary School students and teachers.
